APAC Fact Sheet

APAC is a partnership of 8 organisations, one in each State as well as ANU and CSIRO.

The Partners include 29 universities as members.

The 8 APAC partners operate advanced computing facilities and provide operational services to an estimated 1000 users in Australian universities and CSIRO. They are also involved in research, development, education, training and outreach activities.

The APAC National Facility provides a peak computational system together with a large-scale data management system, advanced software tools and advanced consulting services to researchers throughout Australia.

In addition, APAC and its partners have installed and are continuing to develop grid middleware to build the APAC National Grid - to provide users with seamless access to the resources in the National Facility and the partner facilities. Over 100 researchers with leading compute and data needs are driving this development.

The overall investment in the partnership is about $50 Million per annum and collectively the partners have over 150 experts in high performance computing, data management and visualisation.

APAC is supported by the Systemic Infrastructure Initiative as part of the Australian Government's Backing Australia's Ability program, administered through the Department of Education, Science and Training.

The APAC partners have a range of funding sources including research grants, University contributions, commercial activities and funding through state government agencies.
